OpenWindow: Privacy Policy

Ritwik Takkar built OpenWindow as a free app. The app is provided at no cost and is intended for use as is. This policy explains how OpenWindow handles information when you use the app.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer disclaims all liability for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from or related to your use of the app, including any errors or omissions in content, interruptions or malfunctions, or reliance on information displayed in the app. The app is provided “as is” and “as available.”

Summary

OpenWindow is a weather and air-quality decision app for supported platforms. It uses weather, air-quality, and location data to help answer whether it is a good time to open windows or go outside.

The app can use your current location if you grant location permission. You can also search for a location manually and save a default location.

The app stores settings locally on your device, such as theme preference, unit preferences, default location preference, savedmanual location details, installupdate tracking state, and analytics identifiers used by the app.

The app uses Open-Meteo services to search locations and fetch weather and air-quality data. The app uses limited PostHog analytics to understand usage and improve the app. I do not sell personal information, and the app does not use advertising trackers.

Information Collection and Use

No account is required to use OpenWindow. The app may collect or process the location search text you enter, selected or saved location names, latitude and longitude, country or region details returned by location services, weather and air-quality request status, app version, build number, platform, device model or device name, operating system version, event names, event times, install events, update events, settings changes, and location source such as current location, search, or saved location.

If you use current location, the app requests device location permission from the operating system. Location access is used to resolve your approximate current location and fetch local weather and air-quality data. If permission is denied or unavailable, you can use manual location search instead.

Analytics are used only to maintain and improve the app. Analytics failures are ignored and do not affect weather or air-quality functionality.

Third-party services used by or associated with the app may collect information under their own policies. Relevant privacy links include PostHog, Open-Meteo, Apple App Store, and Google Play Services.

Log Data

When analytics, weather, air-quality, geocoding, location, or platform services are used, log data may be collected. This may include information such as your Internet Protocol (IP) address, device information, operating system, app version, configuration, event timestamps, usage statistics, location search queries, selected location details, coordinates, weather request details, and request results.

Local settings remain on your device unless included in the analytics events described in this policy, sent to Open-Meteo to provide weather, air-quality, or geocoding functionality, processed by the operating system to provide current location or reverse geocoding, or shared by you through platform features.

Data Retention and Deletion

Local app data can be removed by deleting the app or clearing its app data, depending on your platform. Location permission can be changed in your device or system settings. Analytics data is retained by PostHog according to PostHog's policies and my project settings.
